Spa And Hot Tub Paint Directions For Use
Fiberglass – Acrylic – Gunite – Concrete
Tools Needed
- 1 Bristle Scrub Brush

- 2 Two Quart Plastic Paint Mixing Pales
(Do No Use Paper Mixing Pails)
If Using The Roll On Method
•  2 Short Nap 1/4 Inch Paint Roller Pads

•  2 Disposable Oil Base Paint Brushes

• 1 Quart Muriatic Swimming Pool Acid

Caution – Muriatic Swimming Pool Acid can cause skin burns and can be harmful if you get it in your eyes. It ls also a respiratory irritant and can be harmful if inhaled into the lungs. The safety items listed above must be used when acid washing the spa or hot tub. Muriatic Acid (Pool Acid) can be purchased from Walmart Garden Center or Home Depot along with the other items listed above. Follow precautions labeled on the product.
Preparing The Spa-Empty Water First!
*Please note that fiberglass, gelcoat and acrylic spas need to be rough sanded prior to acid washing for extra adhesion of the spa paint. This can be completed with 100 grit sandpaper.
• The spa must be acid washed with a solution of muriatic acid and water. Put on your safety items. Pour only 1/2 (half) of the quart of muriatic acid into the a plastic pail filled with 1 gallon of water. Then mix solution well. Starting from the inside floor of the spa, use the scrub brush and wash the inside of the spa, working your way out of the spa. Be careful not to splash the solution on your face or clothes. If you do get on your skin or clothes, rinse your skin for 15 minutes. Remove and wash your clothes. Follow directions on the bottle of muriatic acid.
- Rinse the spathoroughly and allow the spato completely dry before proceeding to the next steps.
Caution – The two part paint system you are using requires two coats to be applied. This will take two days to complete. You will be mixing only half of each bottle at a time for each coat. These products produce some heat while curing so use caution and keep out of reach of children. Discard all containers, paint tray, brush, roller pad, and mixing sticks when done.
Mixing Spa Paint
- Wear Disposable gloves and pour 1/2 (half) of the bottle of clear resin into a two quart plastic pail.
- If you have a colored tint provided, Mix in 1/2 (half) of the jar of colored tint at this time. Mix thoroughly until you have a nice even color. If you ordered a clear kit, skip this step.
- Now add 1/2 (half) of the bottle of the amber colored resin (hardener) to the tinted mixture. Mix thoroughly making sure that you scrape the sides of the pail often. Mix for about 5-7 minutes.
Painting The Spa
- Best If applied between a temperature of 75° and 80°. You will have 30-40 minutes working time to apply the first coat before the paint will start to harden. Temperatures under 70° will prolong the working time but also cause the paint to take longer to dry and cure.
- Use a brush to apply the paint, or you may use a paint roller. Starting at the bottom floor of the spa working your way out to the rim, apply the paint in even strokes overlapping each stroke. Do not apply too thick of a coat to avoid getting any runs. Cut in any corners or around jets, drains and chrome with a brush.
- Paint will dry to the touch in 3-4 hours and the second coat can be applied in 24 hours. Follow the same procedures above for applying the second coat. Allow 3 days curing time before adding water to the spa. If it rains before the 3 days are up, allow another extra day for curing.
Clean Up
- Clean up with lacquer thinner
